Visit us at Gwent Archives to discover fascinating stories about the people and places of Gwent, revealed through a wealth of archival resources. 

The Research Room at Gwent Archives is open - Tues 9:30 - 4:30, Wed 9:30 - 4:30, Thur 9:30 - 4:30.

Attention:

01/01/2026 - We will be trialing Saturday openings between January and June 2026. We will be open between 10am and 4pm on the following dates: Saturday 10 January, Saturday 14 February, Saturday 14 March, Saturday 11 April, Saturday 09 May, Saturday 13 June.

01/04/2026 - Please be aware that the public entrance for the General Offices has now moved. When visiting Gwent Archives, you must now enter the building from Fford Billy Collins – not Steelworks Road. The staff on reception will greet you and will direct you to the Gwent Archives Research Room.

Book your appointment by contacting us at enquiries@gwentarchives.gov.uk or 01495 766261. Please let us know if you would like to visit for the morning, the afternoon or for the whole day.  You are welcome to bring someone with you, and a separate booking will need to be made in their name.  

Choose your documents using our online cataloguesArchives Hub and Discovery and let us know what you would like to see.  Staff will be available during your visit to advise on the collections before and during your visit.    

Sign up for an Archives Card, and you’ll just need to bring identification for us to complete the process and issue your card.

Taking copies of original documents can only be done using a camera; photocopying and scanning are not allowed. Gwent Archives charges for a permit if customers wish to use their own cameras; otherwise, Gwent Archives offers a photography service. Details are available within the Fees and Charges section of our website.
