Biographical/Historical note

The "Domesday Project" was set up in 1986 in order to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the Domesday Book and to provide a lasting and updated record of the structures included in the original survey. Many schools and colleges nationwide contributed to the project.

The "Structures Project," was established 2 years later; it dealt specifically with those monasteries, Bishops' Palaces, castles and cathedrals which were in existence by AD 1600, and which still survive.
