Biographical/Historical note
Oakdale Workmen's Institute was built in 1917, funded by a loan from the Tredegar Iron and Coal Company. It included a reading room, library and committee room. Ten years later a cinema was added. The Institute closed in 1987; two years later it was dismantled and moved to the National History Museum at St. Fagans in Cardiff.
