Biographical/Historical note
The church was formally constituted in 1879 under the pastorship of David Stephen Lewis, who had seen the need for an English language place of worship in the district. Hillside House was used as a place of worship until a new chapel was built by the members themselves on a piece of land opposite, by 1889.
