Biographical/Historical note

St. Woolos Cathedral (now known as Newport Cathedral of St. Woolos, King and Confessor) is thought to date back to a church founded by St. Gwynlllyw in the late 5th century. This building is thought to have been of wooden construction and has therefore not survived. Part of the present building dates back to the ninth century and later additions were made in the Norman and many later periods. It became a cathedral in 1949.

The Prayer and Thanksgiving Service to which the record relates was held in honour of the Silver Jubilee of Queen Ellzabeth II, in 1977.
