Court House was the home of baker Henry Jones, the inventor of self-raising flour, from 1864 until his death in 1891. He is buried in the churchyard.

Cites Elizabeth Rushell's will of 1799 Nov 8th bequeathing land to Westerley and 2 others since deceased in trust for her niece Martha married to William Stephens and now dead, and then to their four children, these are now Warren, now deceased but survived by Ann Stephens Payne, daughter by her marriage to William Payne. William Stephens, Mary Boxham and Ann Stephens Payne are each entitled to one third of the proceeds from the sale to John Lewis of land bequeathed by Rushell. Since Ann is a miner aged six, her share is to be invested in the three per centum consolidated bank unnuity. Wise, retaining ownership of the deeds covering Lewis's purchase acts as gauarantor (reasons given). These are named in schedule. Concerns arable land - 1 rood 5 perches in Mill (alias South) Field Caldicot and enclosed arable land of 2 acres 2 roods known as 'Old Wales' and near Mill Field. Concerns land listed in a first schedule as 194 and 196 on Tythe Map. 196 is 'Old Wales', a second schedule has one indenture, of August 1849 (missing) said to confirm Rowlands title.  D581/8 Indenture of Conveyance: 1880 September 24th Thomas Henry Morgan of Chepstow, George Richards of Portskewett, to Joseph Davies of Caldicot, Labourer. Morgan to whom the land mortgaged for £200 by indenture of 1878 (missing) consents to the sale of some of it to Davies. Land concerned - pt of plot 27 on Tythe Map, 21 on this and the two subsequent documents there is some confusion as to which number is a Tythe Map number and which occurs on the Enclosure Map.  D581/11 Office Copy of Probate Will of Ann Rowland Copied from Registry of Consistory Court Llandaff.Probate 1839, March 5th. Cites Marriage Settlement (missing) enabling her to dispose of Couthhouse Farm and rights attached thereto. These she leaves to her hudsband Thomas Rowland subject to mortgage of £4000 and bond debt of £600 and after his decease or marriagge, to James Jenkins of Chepstow and Michael Davis of Usk, auctioneer in trust for her daughter Elizabeth Hodges and her son Thomas Pride, both to share equally in the farm, but Mrs Hodge's bequest basically of lands, Pride of Rghts. Both to share above debts. Other bequests: to Elizabeth Hodges her household effects; to children of late daughter Ann Evans at her husbands death £100 to be shared equally among them; to children of late son James Pride at her husbands death £100 to be shared equally among them. Residue to shared by son and daughter Executor Thomas Rowland [Mid 19th century]

Elizabeth Hodges (nee Pride) of Caldicot widow of John Hodges of Magor. Details of mortgage of £4,000 and bond of £600 with a detailed history of them. Lands finally settled on Elizabeth Hodges upon full payment of her moiety of these debts. 1 Feb 1864

 D581/13 Indenture of Conveyance: Elizabeth Hodges of Caldicot to Henry Jones of Broadmead Bristol Courthouse Caldicot together with surrounding lands detailed on schedule and coloured on a plan. The the plan in pencil are added additional fields and a note that allotments on Caldicot Moor are sold to Mr Henry Oakley. Endorsements that by Indenture of 1893 October 31st (missing) Augusta Jamima Wheeler obtained from William Pride Jones and George Stephens (Henry Jones' Trustees) some of land tythe no162 in schedule. This she promised to fence and the trustees promised to produce this indenture (11) to support her claim. Consideration £3,900. 2 Feb 1864

 D581/18 Declaration of John Peacey William Williams a surveyer engaged in encloser (details given) and agent for Wise in negotiations with the South Wales Railway Company, had surveyed Wise's lands. Cites maps of 1760 and 1780 as showing that lot 20 (151 on Tythe Map) was land purchased by Henry Hayward from Ann Hort of Bristol by Indenture Lease/Release, 1749 April 20th, only the lease surviving. 16 Dec 1857

This indenture replaces the contract made by Williams. There are two schedules.
