Biographical/Historical note
In [1959] the National Coal Board's (NCB) Scientific Department Coal Survey produced a folio of maps and diagrams to present a general picture of the variation in structure and properties of all important seams in the South Wales Coalfield. This was accompanied by a supplement, [1962], depicting the Five feet and Gellideg seams.

Folio of maps, diagrams, sections, tables and acetates, 1957-1962, depicting coal seams of the South Wales Coalfield, mainly in Glamorgan and Monmouthshire.

The folio is based upon the records of seam ure, thickness, quality and rank held by the Coal Survey organisation of the National Coal Board supplemented by information obtained from the South Western Division of the Board, from the seven South Wales Areas and various smaller component units of this Division, and from other sources.
