Biographical/Historical note
The study was written to accompany a 76-page report. It was one of several which was carried out at this time in Bristol, South Wales and Gloucestershire. Its purpose was to determine the effects on transport of future development in the county. Funding was provided mainly by Monmouthshire County Council and the Welsh Office, with a contribution from the British Transport Docks Board.

The study focuses mainly on the roads network, with a brief note on public transport.
