Biographical/Historical note

In 1800 the tinmasters helped build Sion Baptist church, Ponthir, where services were held in English and Welsh. There is still a healthy congregation at Sion and they have raised money in recent years to refurbish the chapel. Services today are exclusively English, currently the dominant language of the area. The chapel is now a listed building. A manse was by a local farmer when his daughter married the then minister, Rev Rees Griffiths.
