Biographical/Historical note
Newport is a city and unitary authority area in South East Wales.
Tank 'Julian' was named after Field Marshal Julian Hedworth George Byng, 1st Viscount Byng of Vimy, GCB, GCMG, MVO, a British Army officer who served as Governor General of Canada, the 12th since Canadian Confederation. Tank 'Julian' itself was a battle-scarred tank, which toured parts of Wales including Newport, during the summer of 1918. Julian was used to raise money for the war effort
