Biographical/Historical note

Local Acts are often for the benefit of organisations, or used to authorise major projects such as railways or canals, or may afford greater powers to local authorities. In the nineteenth century, Local Acts were used to create corporations, grant monopolies and (most frequently) for the construction of railways, canals and other works projects.
