Volunteering

At Gwent Archives in Ebbw Vale, we have opportunities for people to volunteer in a number of ways. Volunteers can provide a valuable contribution to our work in making the records accessible to the public and this can also be very rewarding. One of the opportunities available is the Gwent Archives Volunteer Cataloguing Project (GAVCAT) which aims to provide a one-stop search facility on the web for all of the records held at Gwent Archives. Creating an electronic catalogue is a major task, as there are thousands of hard-copy catalogues to be converted. As a first step we need volunteers who can spare some time, either working at home on their own computers or coming into the Archives, to help convert these into properly structured, web-mountable catalogues.

All volunteers will be provided with training and support throughout the project.  We will also have a number of special volunteer days in our new building in Ebbw Vale to say thank you for your support.
