Access to records is free in our public Research Room
Archive enquiries can also be made by email or letter. Our staff will provide basic information about our holdings free of charge. This information may be available on our website (although this is still in development). Telephone enquiries may also be made but in order to obtain a more detailed reply it is advisable to write or email.
We also offer a paid Search service for those who are unable to visit Gwent Archives in person. We will search specific records on your behalf and provide a report detailing the records searched and whether the information you require has been found. The fee is £30 which will cover up to an hour of searching and reporting, and includes up to 3 photocopies and 2 digital prints (where time allows), and postage within the EU.
A Search Order form can be requested from our office. When applying it is helpful to tell us which records you have previously searched (if any) in order to avoid duplication and also to give us useful background information for the search. Please note that this is a Search service for particular records, and not a more general research service.
The Search fee of £30.00 can be paid by cheque (payable to Torfaen County Borough Council), or by credit or debit card (via our website or telephone). A charge is made whether or not any relevant information is found, since the charge is for staff time.
